When you are involved in a car accident, it can be very devastating. Some accidents are more serious than others. A lot of people do not think they will end up in a car accident but accidents happen every day. You can be the world’s safest driver, but not everyone on the road shares the same safety concerns. There are quite a few people who become distracted when they are driving. Technology is huge these days and everyone is on their phone, even when they shouldn’t be. It may seem like common sense not to text and drive but people do it all of the time! Distracted drivers are putting themselves and others on the road at risk, and if you are ever been involved in a car accident, talk with our car accident lawyer at JGarcia Law Firm in Kissimmee! There are some laws you need to be aware of including middle turn lane laws.

Middle Lane Turns

When you are driving, there are a lot of laws you need to follow, but if you don’t know the law, how are you supposed to abide by it? Our car accident lawyer would like to share some middle turn lane laws with you:

  • Look for a center lane with two sets of yellow lines. The outer yellow lines are solid and the inner yellow lines are dashed.
  • Look for a sign that says “center lane only”. The sign will have two curved arrows that indicate left turns.
  • Do not confuse a dedicated turn lane for a center turn lane. You will find dedicated turn lanes at intersections and those can only be used in the direction of traffic. A center turn lane will run down the length of the road and can be used by both directions of traffic.

Making Proper Turns

It is important that you know how to make proper turns. If you do not know how to turn, you can put yourself at risk of being involved in a serious accident. Driving is not as simple as you think and you need to know how to drive properly and what the laws are in order to protect yourself and keep everyone else driving close to you safe. Here are a few steps to making a proper turn:

  • Decide ahead of time if you will be making a turn. Do not rush over into a lane and cut someone off to make your turn at the last minute.
  • If you miss your turn, it is okay! You can always go to the next light and turn around.
  • Use turn signals before you are about to make your turn in order to let people know that you will be doing so. If you are driving 50mph and you slow down to make a sudden turn, the car behind you may crash right into you. Give them notice before you turn by using your blinker!
  • Before you turn, look for bicyclists and pedestrians. Remember, they always have the right of way, so if you see someone walking or riding a bike, let them pass before you turn.
